What is the nature of The Kingdom of God?
|
What does The Kingdom of God look like? Is there somewhere I can go to see a preview? What kind of administration does it have? Will I understand the language? What currency does it use? I am no bible scholar so I stand ready to be corrected but the only physical description of The Kingdom I can find is in Revelation 21. There, it is described as a great city, 2,400 kilometres square with walls 66 metres high. Exotic building materials notwithstanding, this does not sound like paradise to me. I read somewhere that half of all humans who have lived are alive at this time. If we are going to live together with our ancestors in The Kingdom, this means accomodating about 13 billion people and would give an average population density of around 1 person for every 900 square meters, about the same as a current North American suburb, no thanks. A vision of a heavenly city as the highest level of human existance probably made sense to people 2,000 years ago as cities had services and rural areas did not. However, at this point in human history, many, if not most people escape the city at every opportunity. My own preference would be the south and central coast of British Columbia.

While not all scientists agree, it seems the most likely form for all of Creation is an infinite multiverse. This would present infinite possibilities and infinite iterations of each possibility so my vision would be as valid as anyone's and so would yours. This can be incredibly liberating if we want it to be, we don't have to worry about making payments on our 'Stairway to Heaven', we can get to work on building it . . . TO OUR OWN PLAN! We don't just do this for an hour or two on Sunday morning, we work at it with every decision we make, every person we meet and every experience we have. This means we can go at it with gusto, but we can also take a break when we need to. We are self employed and self directed! We still need some help of course, but, help is available everywhere, from everyone! One more thing, what is the currency of The Kingdom? It is whatever you have and whatever you need. It doesn't require metal tokens or pictures of the rulers of empire. It is not backed by stockpiles of metals or jewels. It is the total of the abilities of the citizens of The Kingdom and it will purchase sufficient for their needs. previous . . . . . |
